split pea and a little princess

do you ever have a plan for your day and then the creativity bug strikes you. so you get home and your plan goes straight out the window with the bathwater. HA, as if we still threw the bathwater out the window... but my plan to sew and take a picture of my living room? yeah, dead. they're dead.

but! i did make some split pea soup for the very first time last night.

truth be told, that is not really a picture of MY split pea soup... but its a nice picture nonetheless. also, its hard to make split pea look appetizing... it looks randy, but it tastes heavenly. would you like the recipe? too bad! no, seriously, i kid i kid... here it is:

2 cups split peas
2 qts water
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 cup celery
1.5 cups bite size peeled/chopped russet potato
1.5 cups ham chunks
coarse ground black pepper

so, i brought the water and peas to a boil and then took them off the stove and let them sit for an hour. then i added all the other goodies except the potatoes, and let the soup simmer on the stove for another hour and a half. then i added the potatoes and about the time they were done, so was the soup. a little time consuming, but very scrumptious!

also i was reminiscing today (i know... last time i reminisced there was a scary banana clip involved, but i promise you, this is good)... about shera princess of power and he-man. did you watch that when you were a kid? i totally did. i had the pajamas, you know, the fuzzy one-piece number that zipped up, snapped on top with the vinyl bottomed feeties in them? my dad used to grab us by the back as we ran by and swung us around holding onto only the scruff of our pj's. we called it 'the airplane'. we'd laugh and scream, "put us down put us down" (as my sister was always in one hand while i was in the other). and he'd let out this chuckle and put us down, pretending to walk off...and we'd yell after him "daddy, do it again!!!" what is it about kids and flying through the air? now i'm afraid of anything even remotely close to that. i won't even climb to the top rung of our six foot ladder. my daredevil youth has all but disappeared. i digress a little... but i'm six feet tall... you wouldn't think a six foot ladder would frighten me so.

what were some of your favorite childhood shows? (mine included the likes of lassie, smurfs, dennis the menace, & captain kangaroo)

i leave you with this image:

I was a big fan of the Smurfs, StarBlazers, and looney toons.
You know you can buy those onesie footed pj's in adult sizes at Target, I saw them the other day.
And I LOVE soup, just not split pea.. file that away with the brussel sprouts please. =o)

Smurfs and Care Bears...The old care bears are WAY better than the new Care Bears cartoons.

OOh - He Man and She- Ra!! I loved them. I thought He-Man was a spunk and I wanted to be She-ra when I grew up. Too funny!!
