And She Finally Got With The Times

For those of you who know me personally, you know I'm kind of low-tech. I prefer a garden to the TV and to make it myself instead of sitting down on the computer and ordering it from a multitude of websites. I am a do-it-yourselfer. A low-tech gal. A leader of a simple life. Um, yeah, until yesterday when I got this little beaut --

This is the first time in my life I have been able to check my email from my phone, text message, send videos or pictures, use a calendar like my outlook, add addresses and birthdays and anniversaries, have a nav system at my fingertips... (insert endless babble and chatter here)... To say the least I am overwhelmed and completely out of my element... but on the other hand, it makes me superbly giddy at the same time. Um yes, so next time you call me, your picture may just come up... and you may hear Lie In Our Graves by Dave Matthews Band... and I may just squeal with delight.

How was your weekend?

Only Slightly Naughty...

I have a confession to make. I'm on crack. And by crack, I mean Pioneer Woman Actions. I don't know if you've noticed, but I can't get enough of her Seventies action... you can see proof here, here, and in my avatar. Do any of you watch "How I Met Your Mother"? I think it may be time for an intervention.

Lately my crafting and thrifting interests have peaked. They're like crack. I can't get enough. I was at the thrift store yesterday and I came across a lovely bag of thread spools, three of which were WOODEN VINTAGE GOODNESS and I quickly snagged them up for Miss Stephanie, who just adores them so. I love to surprise friends with little bits and baubles I know they'll love. In fact, I love it so much I can't ever even keep my big trap shut long enough for it to be a surprise!

I couldn't resist yesterday and bought these adorable Pyrex plates! I'm really not good with dates, but I think they're from around the sixties? Kinda funky mod... I like them!

And... the Old Red Barn Co. is having a a Sew-A-Long... so I think its time I quit talking and start sewing. I've wanted a quilt forever. So today, I splurged and bought this pattern:

and I've been collecting some fabrics... I think yellows/browns/greens/ and rusty oranges. What do you think?

Oh... and who watched Grey's...damn ... it was a good one...

Easy Way Out

I know many of us are unhappy with our bodies. Dream about perhaps taking a little chub out of the middle, off the chin, perhaps you have Oprah arms? Ever thought to yourself, "if only there was a fix-all end-all?" I know I have, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. Let me follow this with saying, I'm not a lazy-arse. I know how to used the good ol fashioned body to lose weight. I jog, bike, elliptical and etc.

So, I'm gonna say it out loud--err, type it. I thought about taking Alli. Pretty Wynona Judd's up there advertising it... why not? It can't be that bad. Or... can it? I started doing a little research of my own, thinking, "I can handle side effects." Um, poop. Literally. I'm a tough chiky... but no poop for me thanks. So I went to the MayoClinic website to check things out. That's my go-to site for medical information. They speak in real terms like "anal leakage". You can see where this is going...

(um, what is that blue thing for? is it like a cork? does it stop anal leakage?)

Basically I was reading the in's and out's of the drug, copying bits here and there and pasting them into an online conversation I was having with Stephanie... I was giggling and cringing at the same time, I'm sure she was doing the same.

Some parts that really got me thinking went something like this (and, if its not obvious, I'm not directly quoting from the MayoClinic... but putting my own subtle twist on their words)...

you can experience oily excrement, little warning before the poo shoots out everywhere, and sometimes even anal leakage. And all this for just 48.00 per month. Not to mention you'll get severe stomach cramping some time and should still work out and eat a low fat diet. Also, just so you know, if you stop taking the pills, you're going to gain back all that deliciously lost weight. And by deliciously lost weight, the website says studies showed only 6-8 pounds were lost within the course of the year. Torture yourself for the weight of a small turkey and you will find peace. Who knows, if you're lucky, you might even get a little depressed, eat some more, and gain back more than you lost. Now doesn't that sound like fun? But don't worry, its only recommended you take the pills for six months, and we'll leave it up to you as to whether you'd like to torture yourself on the toilet longer than that. Please, use our product and we'll flush those pounds away.

That good 'ol treadmill is looking awfully great right about now. Or as Stephanie puts it, "I'd rather have Jillian Michaels kick my ass." Bring on the biking, kayaking, and baked fish people. I won't be spending any more time than necessary on the porcelain throne. I'd take my chicken wings and spare tire over the eternal hershey squirts any day. I bid you adieu and happy eating!

Nettie Pot

I have recently been introduced to the wonderful world of snot pots. I first saw it on Six Feet Under when the mom's crazy husband (George I believe his name was??) used it in the kitchen and it would totally gross her out. I'm really skeptical about things. In general... I won't just go out and buy something because its the fad. A. because I'm cheap and B. because I'm not a sell-out.

But my sister got one recently also and she kept nagging at me, get one, get one, its great, you'll feel like a million bucks, it helps with allergies, etc. So I hemmed and hawwed and I do have bad allergies in the spring and fall... and then I had my ear surgery and they told me I couldn't blow my nose for at least a week, maybe two. SON OF A MOTHERLESS GOAT! Are you serious people? How am I supposed to get the snot out. The nurse suggested a sinus rinse. After two days of using a handled pyrex bowl full of warm water and a turkey baster... standing over a sink with a towel, tasting nasty salty water, I gave in and bought the silliest little blue snot pot ever, the Nettie Pot.

I am not exactly sure how it does what it does, but I love it. So the general idea is... you fill it with a luke warm saline solution (it comes w/ fifty ready-mixed packets) and lean over a sink, chin down slightly. Pour the goodness into one nostril and without ever hitting the back of your throat or going in your mouth... it comes out the other nostril, POOF... its magic. And this one simple fact that it does not go in your mouth is what delights me to new levels. NO SNOT IN YOUR MOUTH. No salty NASTO in your mouth. It is pure GLORY. In fact, I used it this morning and I'm clean as a whistle in there. I used it yesterday morning also. I suspect I will be using it quite often.

Do any of you use a Nettie Pot? What are your thoughts? Did I make anyone want to go out and get one? How's life?
